
The Camden Group established the Victor E. Schimmel Memorial
Nursing Scholarship fund to promote advanced education of tomorrow's leaders and nursing faculty. The Camden Group has awarded two scholarships a year to individuals who are currently enrolled, or have recently been accepted into, a college or university for an advanced degree. Starting in 2008, the schlolarships awarded will increase to three. All nurse managers, directors, educators and nursing program faculty are invited to apply.
Victor E. Schimmel, MS, MBA was a vice president at The Camden Group with overall
responsibility for The Camden Group's retirement living and financial planning
services. With over 20 years of consulting and line management responsibility
in the health care industry, he had advised continuing care retirement communities,
congregate care facilities, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities,
hospitals, integrated delivery systems, and health plans on a wide range of
financial issues.
Mr. Schimmel received his bachelor's degree from the City College of New York and master's degrees from the Sloan School of Management at M.I.T. (business) and Columbia University (mathematical statistics).
On December 8, 2000 Victor passed away leaving his wife Sydney and two daughters, Amelia and Joanna. In honor of our friend and colleague the Victor E. Schimmel Memorial Nursing Scholarships were established. These scholarships are designed to support the advanced educational pursuits of nursing educators and nursing leaders.
2007 Recipients of the Victor E. Schimmel Memorial Nursing Scholarships
Ms. Judy Davison, a clinical nurse specialist at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, is currently enrolled at Case Western Reserve University’s doctoral program in nursing practice. The focus of her doctoral work and her passion in her role at Scripps Mercy Hospital is to work with family members of patients in the ICU to educate, support and assist them in participating at the bedside in a meaningful way.
Ms. Katrina Nardini, a full-time student in the master's program at the University of California, San Francisco, is enrolled in the advanced practice degree program. Her goal upon graduation is to become a Certified Nurse Midwife and a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. Her goal is to work with underserved populations and young women and teens with unwanted pregnancies.
Ms. Valerie Willis, Parenting Preemies Program Coordinator at San Antonio Community Hospital, Upland, is currently completing her master's in science degree at Azusa Pacific University. Upon graduation she will continue her work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Her goal is to become the director of a high-risk infant developmental follow-up clinic.
