Mr. Smith is a senior vice president with The Camden Group and a seasoned consultant with experience as a  hospital system, health plan, and large physician group executive. He leads the clinical integration (“CI”) and accountable care practice for The Camden Group. He has helped numerous clients form strategy and implement projects to move from volume based to value based care and reimbursement. A builder of organizations, teams and executives, he has extensive experience in managed care development and operations, health system strategic and business planning, medical group operations, and direct contracting. He is a leading expert in developing accountable care organizations (“ACOs”) and assisting organizations to achieve CI. As a healthcare and health plan leader, he has developed and led physician groups (including IPAs, MSOs), HMOs/PPOs, hospitals, health systems, and health plans.

Prior to joining The Camden Group, Mr. Smith was the Central New York Region’s president for Excellus/Blue Cross. Mr. Smith also served for six years as the founding president and chief executive officer at Greater Rochester Independent Practice Association (“GRIPA”). At GRIPA, he developed governance as well as operating structures to manage a clinically integrated healthcare network formed by three physician organizations of over 1,600 physicians and four hospitals. He has also served as an executive leader for several large health systems and hospitals.

Mr. Smith is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a past Fellow of the Mandel Center for the Study of Nonprofits at Case Western Reserve University.
